Easter with +DOG+! Live at Godwafflenoisepancakes in SF, 3-31-13

I went to San Francisco yesterday for Easter Sunday (whatever that is) and spent a wonderful few hours making noise with friends..  it was another of Grux's wacky GODWAFFLENOISEPANCAKE happenings.  I don't know if he realized it was gonna be Easter Sunday when the show was booked..but it did not really effect things very much anyways.. all of the artists scheduled to play showed up and a decent crowd also were in attendance.. so all was good and things were swell.  First up was a band whose name started with the letter "S".. and they do not seem to be listed on any of the event pages that I can find for this show, so I have not been able to find out just what they were called..  I arrived about halfway through their set...and so i missed most of it.. I heard some beats and occasional grooves..but nothing that made me too excited.   Next up was Amphibious Gestures..who are part of Skosey Fetish's crew, or so I am told.. they did some great drones and added textures by using vocal effects and chaos pad electronics.. they also were in very colorful costumes complete with mask's that had lights in them for that added bonus effect.

3rd on the bill was Endometrium Cuntplow an awesome sound art project from Los Angeles.. ..He played on the floor, as he regularly does.. and began with some scraping of something on the ground.. and then layering of scraping noises with vocal sounds that he looped and let continue on while he got up and went around the room blowing soap bubbles in everyone's faces...after making the rounds he went back to his spot on the floor and built the sound into a grumbling roar that intensified and then faded into him screaming a cappella about how everything will rot in the end .. it was very eastery!

Rule 19 is a project done by Daniel Van Beers, someone that I have known for many years but have not seen in over a decade.  He makes train noises.. with actual train parts.. bells, whistles, horns.. its pretty cool ...but it takes a lot of preparation..and so he does not do it very often....this was the first time he had brought it out for public in over 5 years ..it was short..but it was loud and very cool.. it sounded like a train was IN the building..   Daniel's sounds were also the intro and added to the conceptual mad epic last performance of the day by +DOG+..

This time around +DOG+ was its master.. Steve Davis .. also Geordan White of Liver Cancer.. and myself..Lob.     We started as the bells of the train faded into the walls of the building and then Steve began with a tone of static electricity .. Geordan and I gradually entered into the audio mix. .and by the time the crux was reach we were all 3 laying down some pretty loud and chunky things.. I kept trying to pierce thru with metal like bass riffs that were embedded into very crunchy loops of distortion ..Geordan closed out the set with a sampled piece that he brought with him just to end the set with.. I am not sure where it came from but it was pretty damn creepy..    you can listen for your self..

The Misfits at Red Robin

So i was delivering papers today....and one of my stops was at a Red Robin (yum!).. and so i walk into the lobby like I do every week and they have music playing. Its usually the typical classic rock/pop standards ..not too loud..you know, how a restaurant plays music.. just enough volume for you to hear it and sing along if you know the words.. and so.. I'm doing my thing, like I do every week.. only this week something grabs my attention.. and I stand there a moment and realize that the piped in music for everyone to enjoy while they are eating is not your typical classic RnR.. NO.. it was COUGH COOL.. by THE MISFITS.. not CCR.. not Buddy Holly.. not even Madonna.. but THE MISFITS.. it was 5:30pm on a Wednesday... families were walking in for dinner.. and as they walk in the door the are met by The Misfits.. Cough cool cool cool..

now.. who wants to tell me that Punk Rock is not a cartoon of itself and still has merit???

Stockton

..so later today, this evening...Instagon is appearing for the very first time in Stockton,CA.    Stockton is sort of an odd place..its only just under an hour south of Sacramento..but it has its own issues and problems that makes it stand out.. it has been hit really hard by the economic recession of past years.. the city has not got enough money to run itself, or hire police.. and so the crime rate is very high.. ..but music prevails there still.   A venue called PLEA FOR PEACE CENTRE is a long time co-op ran venue that houses shows. sometimes larger shows.. sometimes smaller.   This might be their very first NOISE based show.. I am not too sure.. but it's at least the first that I have heard of happening there since moving to Sacramento in 2005.
I have previously done a few readings in Stockton... when I first moved into town thanks to Alan Satow and Frank Andrick.   Also Garage Jazz Architects played once at the now closed (but legendary) Black Water Cafe...but this will be the first time that Instagon will play.. and the show is basically a noise dynamic..and we are bringing a band...so it should be different for sure.   Also playing will be Stockton's Novacain.. whom have been suggested as someone Instagon should play with in Stockton by a number of people.. and I am looking forward to seeing them.
I only have a few friends in that area..so I hope to meet some more tonight and get people excited enough so that we can come back to the area sometime soon.  -/\-

Wanna read an interview with me?

Wanna read an interview with me??   there are a couple of really good ones out there right now.. there is one in the newest issue of Paper Cuts magazine.. and there is another in the new edition of (dis)perse .. a blog for experimental music heads..
here is a link!

http://auricular.com/blog/?p=204

both of these interviews are really good.. the Paper Cuts one was done early this year.. and is mostly about the Instagon release "Echophobic".  The one for Auricular is really fresh and has lots about Instagon & Chaos theory.
okay.. thats really all I have to say today.. -/\-

MORNING TV with a side of Garage Jazz !

So.. this past weekend I worked my magick and arranged my band GARAGE JAZZ ARCHITECTS to appear on TV.   It was really fun and cool.. but it was a morning news show, and so that meant being up early in the morning.. like 5am early.. in order to be there by 6am.. and ready to rock by 7am..   now i dont know about you..but rockin' at 7am is pretty tough to pull off.. (unless of course you are still rockin' from the night before) but none the less, we were able to pull it off..   GJA, is a trio that I play in.. you might know that.. but you might not.. so now you do.. its a trio.. 3 of us.. i play bass (duh), and Chad E. Williams plays guitar , and our fearless drummer Mark Halverson keeping it all locked in..  so we played.. it was fun.. it was early.. it was cool.. here are a couple of clips.. enjoy them!

the return of the blog

okay.. so I sorta made a new years resolution to give more attention and input/output to THIS blog.. and so far.. with the first 3 weeks of the year nearly over.. i have blown it.. so here i am to make amends and try to say something here. what? who knows.. i have no idea.. but maybe it will come to me in time.. This first part of the year has been really filled with depression from losing my job right before the holidays.. (for those of you that are just joining me here, i hope you already knew that.. or i guess that last sentence was pretty much a surprise!) But I have bounce back in my regular creative way by booking a batch of shows and creating some art.. and I am starting to un-earth Instagon recordings from the archives into the real world.. if you want to stay up on Instagon stuff.. perhaps checking out THE DEAMONS TUBE is a good idea.. i am gonna try to only rant HERE about ME.. and what I am doing.. not the Deamon. So. .welcome to Lobland 2010.. I am unemployed.. my shoulder hurts.. my beard is growing.. and Yvette is still wonderful and amazing (as we approach our 2 year marker too!) .. the OTHER band is going well (GJA), we have a great home, i have lots of friends, and my credit rating is still in good shape (so far!).. so i guess i really cant complain too much. ( I will try hard to not let this blog become a space for me to simply complain to no one.. but i cant promise anything. ). okay.. so thats good.. im gonna try to keep this from being a novel.. thanks for reading .. perhaps i will give you something else to read soon .. at least thats my working model for this thing.. stay tuned.. lob-sta-gone!
